VILHELMIINA PENTTILÄ

During last autumn's practical course, Tampereen Työväen Teatteri let a reporter student and me in to follow an evening of musical work: we watched Come From Away come to life directly from behind the screen-like set pieces. Seeing the musical from the vantage point of the dresser and the propman turned out to be a memorable experience. The twilight-like atmosphere on the dim backstage transferred onto the images as well.

The complete story was published as a reportage in Moreenimedia, the web medium of Tampere University journalism students.

Actors warm up on stage before the evening truly begins.

The experienced actors know how to stay relaxed before a performance.

For the propman, the musical is not the most demanding project, since the set stays the same throughout the evening. Here, Markku Niskanen gives the 10 minute call for the audience.

The drummer has their own, more sound-proofed section in the shadows of the side stage.

In Come From Away, dresser Katri Innanmaa has to be quick on her feet, because actors come and go through the backstage constantly, with no intermission.

The fastest costume change: Katri Innanmaa hands over a prop tissue to an actor.

A moment of silence before the next song.

Dim LED lights help actors find the right change of clothes.

Tampereen Työväen Teatteri is renowned for the quality of its productions.

Three actors, now dressed as flight attendants, wait in the wings.

The lights shine down from the high, darkened stage roof.

The last scene has already turned into a party with the audience.
